I wish I could lend you my Naturopath...she is AWESOME. Although, I know what she would say, so for what it's worth:
1. Ginger settles the stomach. Capsules or chew on the crystallized ginger slices. Yogi Tea makes a really nice green ginger tea.
2. Papaya Enzymes work wonders. You can usually get chewables in the health food store...read the labels, tho...avoid any brand with fake sugar in it.
3. I'm a firm believer in homeopathics. Ipecacuanha 30C is great for nausea & vomiting.
Always wishing you the best!
Only time I've ever had constant nausea was when I was pregnant. In that case the only thing that helped me was to suck a honey and eucalyptus lolly (candy).
I think in my case the nausea was due to a metallic taste in my mouth though and the honey and eucalyptus was enough to disguise the taste.
Like jin, I was told ginger might help, and another suggestion was to ensure my vitamin B levels were adequate.
Hope you find something that helps.
I concur about the ginger. How about buying a knob and grating some into your tea of choice? Or better still, nick some from any horrible nurse you have who grows ginger. Slink out after dark with your trowel.
Otherwise, here's hoping that you'll feel better soon and that the nausea will pass. Like, now.
Be gone.
Go.
Ginger, pineapple or papaya is good for nausea... or sip peppermint tea with some honey in it.
~hugs~
I wish I knew what to say or do or suggest for Bobby.
My heart is breaking for you. I have nothing new to add to the nausea ideas. Ginger was all I had.
I wish there was something we could do to help Bobby as well. That is awful.
Topotecan? Sounds like a character from Apocalypto.
Seems like any of the chemo drugs are going to be rough, as I said you are a strong person.
I'm really sorry you're feeling nauseous, I'm still going through it with the pregnancy so I empathise completely. I've tried all suggestions (crackers, ginger, you name it) and nothing seems to work for me.
I don't wish to sound disparaging, what I'm saying is don't go worrying or thinking you're weird if nothing seems to work.
And please allocate me a spot to work on hating for you - remember I'm hating for two!

Ginger too. Hang in there F xxx
i'm so glad some other people have some good suggestions for you. at work, i do the surgical end of cancer treatment, not the chemo end, so i have great "resources" i can lead people to for issues surrounding chemo. i myself don't know much about it. but hey- if you ever need a whipple, i'm your gal! i've actually only ever given chemo once.
anyway, i am still sending mean, nasty, angry messages your way to those retroperitoneal lymph nodes and cervix of yours. i hope you are feeling them.
i haven't been able to comment on the treatment of your son, because as a nurse, i am humiliated by it. i just wish everyone who decided to enter the health care field had an actual, genuine care for sick people and their families. unfortunately, doctors, radiologists, nurses, aides, and all others involved in you & your son's care may have chosen it for other reasons or may not understnad how important EVERY ASPECT of the care they give is to those they are caring for. i can't excuse or explain it, it's just awful.
i'm going to send some good thoughts your way, too, if you don't mind, and hope that some good things and good people will surround you soon.
